Seriously though, I have a friend whose New Year's Resolution this year was to actually tip more. I totally forgot about it until these threads started popping up. He always tipped 3 bucks. If it was a $10 meal or $150 meal, he always tipped $3 - I shit you not. He told me this himself.
Now I, on the other hand, have no problem tipping 50%, even 100% on EXCELLENT service - especially around Christmas-time. HOWEVER, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER stiffing the hell out of someone (I'll even write a note on the receipt saying exactly why). Tips are to be earned, they are not deserved.
Something crazy overcomes me around Christmas time. I tip about 33% on sit-down meals - again, if I get good/attentive service. I tip everybody - even the mailman!
